Pakistan suffered their second consecutive loss in the T20I series against New Zealand, falling short by five wickets in a rain-affected match in Dunedin. Batting struggles continued as Pakistan failed to adapt to the extra bounce, managing only 91 and 135 in their two outings so far. Skipper Salman Ali Agha acknowledged the need for further improvements, especially in batting and consistency across all departments.
Pakistan’s Batting Woes Continue
Speaking after the match, Agha admitted that Pakistan’s batting had slightly improved compared to their performance in Christchurch but still required significant enhancement.
“I think we batted a bit better in this game than in Christchurch, but we need a stronger finish. Fielding was outstanding, and bowling was good in patches, but consistency is key,” Agha said.
He emphasized the challenge of adjusting to New Zealand’s bounce, which has troubled Pakistani batters. “When we adjust to the bounce, we will be a better team,” he added.

Poor Powerplay Proves Costly
Pakistan’s biggest setback was their Powerplay performance, where they conceded 66 runs in just five overs, allowing New Zealand to gain early control. While the bowling attack recovered later in the innings, the early damage proved too costly.
“After the Powerplay, we bowled well. The spinners did a good job, and Haris Rauf bowled brilliantly. But we need to be better in the Powerplay and more consistent throughout the game,” Agha admitted.
Looking Ahead to the Third T20I
Trailing 0-2 in the five-match series, Pakistan now faces an uphill battle. Agha remains hopeful that his team can bounce back.
“As a batting unit, we need a stronger Powerplay. Similarly, our bowlers must improve in the first six overs. These are key areas where we must step up,” he stated.
Pakistan will now take on New Zealand in the third T20I in Auckland on March 21. With the series slipping away, they must regroup quickly to stay in contention.
