Criticism of the Pakistan cricket team has become a routine, according to fast bowler Haris Rauf, who believes people are quick to point fingers whenever the team loses. Following Pakistan’s defeat in the second T20I against New Zealand in Dunedin, Rauf addressed the ongoing scrutiny, emphasizing the need for patience with players.
Criticism Has Become the Norm
Speaking after the match, Rauf acknowledged that everyone is entitled to their opinion but expressed frustration over the constant negative feedback.
“People seem to be waiting for us to lose so they can start criticizing,” he said. “Criticism has become a routine in Pakistan cricket.”
He stressed that young players need proper opportunities to develop at the international level. “In world cricket, young cricketers are usually given 10 to 15 matches to prove themselves before they can grow into top players,” he explained.

New Zealand Played Better on the Day
Rauf admitted that New Zealand played superior cricket, while Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to execute their plans. He pointed out that some of the shots played by New Zealand’s batters were frustrating for the bowlers.
“Even top edges were going for sixes,” he noted.
He also highlighted the impact of Dunedin’s conditions, explaining that the strong winds and small boundaries made it difficult for bowlers. Deliveries that would typically result in catches ended up clearing the ropes.
“Our bowling unit gave its best, but the results didn’t go our way,” he added.
Fast Bowlers Struggle Everywhere, Not Just in Asia
Responding to the claim that Pakistan’s fast bowlers struggle on Asian pitches, Rauf dismissed it as a misconception.
“Fast bowlers from all over the world face challenges in Asian conditions,” he stated.
He revealed that when international pacers tour Pakistan, they often seek advice on how to bowl effectively.
“We tell them to just keep trying,” Rauf said.
Despite Pakistan trailing 0-2 in the series, Rauf remains optimistic about the team’s ability to bounce back in the upcoming matches. Pakistan will face New Zealand in the third T20I on March 21 in Auckland, aiming to keep their hopes alive in the series.
