The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) announced on Wednesday that the Shawwal moon is expected to be sighted on March 30. This means Eid ul Fitr will likely fall on March 31 (Monday).

Suparco’s prediction is based on advanced astronomical models and observational data. According to its statement, the new moon for Shawwal will occur on March 29, 2025, at 3:58 pm. However, moon visibility depends on key factors like the moon’s age, its angular distance from the sun, altitude at sunset, and atmospheric conditions.

The government agency stated that chances of moon sighting on March 25 in Saudi Arabia are almost impossible. As a result, Eid in Saudi Arabia is also expected on March 31, aligning with Pakistan’s expected date.

Official Eid Holidays Announced

The federal government has declared public holidays for Eid ul Fitr, granting a three-day break. According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holidays will run from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2.

Moonsighting Committee to Convene

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Sunday evening to confirm the moon sighting. The meeting will take place at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. The committee will consider both astronomical calculations and local observations before making an official announcement.

With Suparco’s scientific forecast aligning with the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s prediction, Eid ul Fitr celebrations are expected to begin on March 31.
