A dance video showing a young couple in Kashmir’s scenic Baisaran Valley has gone viral for the wrong reasons. Social media users falsely claimed it captured Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and his wife, Himanshi, during their honeymoon.
As the video gained widespread attention, the real couple in the clip came forward. Ashish Sehrawat and Yashika Sharma identified themselves as the people featured in the video. According to multiple reports, the footage was recorded on April 14 during their vacation.
In a video statement shared on Instagram, Ashish and Yashika set the record straight. They confirmed they were safe and strongly condemned the false narrative surrounding their video.
“We are alive. We don’t know how our video is being used like this. It’s heartbreaking,” Yashika said emotionally.
The couple also expressed their condolences to the family of Lieutenant Narwal. “We offer our deepest condolences to Lieutenant Narwal’s family. Please report any post misusing our video,” Yashika urged.
The 19-second clip features Ashish and Yashika dancing joyfully to Coke Studio’s hit song Jhol amid the lush green meadows of Kashmir. It quickly flooded platforms like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook, accompanied by false claims linking it to the slain officer and his wife.
The video was initially circulated with captions stating it captured “one of the last happy moments” of Lieutenant Narwal and his wife before the tragic Pahalgam attack on April 22. However, fact-checks and the couple’s public clarification have debunked these claims.
Despite the clarification, the false narrative continued to circulate, highlighting the growing problem of misinformation on social media. Experts warn that emotional visuals often get detached from their original context, creating confusion and spreading misinformation rapidly.

Ashish and Yashika urged people not only to stop sharing the false claims but also to report any posts that misuse their personal moment.
“Misusing our personal videos, especially during someone else’s tragedy, is deeply insensitive,” Ashish said in his video message.
The tragic death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal in the Pahalgam terror attack remains a matter of national mourning. However, spreading unrelated content in his name has caused additional grief to both the victim’s family and the couple wrongfully dragged into the controversy.
Authorities have also advised the public to verify content before sharing, especially when incidents involve national tragedies. Media experts emphasize that while social media brings people closer to breaking news, it also demands greater responsibility from users.
The couple’s ordeal serves as a reminder of the dangers of unchecked viral content. It highlights the importance of verifying facts before sharing emotional posts, especially during sensitive times.
As Ashish and Yashika continue to deal with the unwanted attention, they hope people will respect their privacy and focus their sympathy where it belongs — on the family of Lieutenant Narwal, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
