Awais Leghari Slams India’s Indus Waters Treaty Suspensions

Speaking in Dera Ghazi Khan, Leghari emphasized that any suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty requires mutual agreement, making unilateral action impossible under international law. Pakistan’s Firm Stance on Water Rights

Leghari reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering position on the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that Pakistan is entitled to every single drop promised under the agreement. Stressing Pakistan’s resilience, he asserted that the country is fully capable of defending its interests.

Progress on Affordable Electricity

Shifting focus to domestic matters, Leghari shared significant achievements in the energy sector. However he announced that 18 million consumers are now benefiting from electricity at a 56% lower rate.

Security and the Fight Against Terrorism

Addressing national security, Leghari criticized a former Prime Minister for allowing 40,000 terrorists to return from Afghanistan, a decision he said continues to burden Pakistan. In conclusion he emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to eradicating terrorism, praising the tireless efforts of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

Empowering Youth Through Education

Earlier, at the second convocation ceremony of Ghazi University, Leghari praised Pakistan’s youth for their resilience and potential. He urged students to be cautious of misinformation on social media and to seek a research-based understanding of history. However sharing personal advice passed down from his late father, former President Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari, he encouraged students to build a strong bond with the Holy Quran.

Acknowledging Government Achievements

Highlighting progress under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, Leghari pointed to major educational initiatives. He noted the award of 50,000 merit-based scholarships, the distribution of over 110,000 laptops, and the provision of buses to 130 new women’s colleges across Punjab. Additionally, 26 Vice Chancellors have been appointed in universities, creating a stronger educational foundation.
