ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan said on Thursday, that country’s economy is on a positive trajectory regardless of the covid challenges.
PM while addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Roshan Digital Accounts crossing the $500 million in remittances mark.
Khan provided a list of the accomplishments of the PTI government in battling the economic problems of the country and bringing down the current account deficit.
He informed that the repayments of $20 billion in foreign loans had been made in the last 2.5 years.
The premier told about an increase in exports as well, saying that when economies around the world were deteriorating in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pakistan’s economy was stable.
PM Khan compared Pakistan’s exports with competitor countries as India and Bangladesh, mentioning that the nation’s textile sector is seeing a boom as new textile mills are being opened.
Khan emphasized the significance of tapping the overseas Pakistanis market as they are “an asset for the country”.
The government is taking an important initiative to grow the economy with the help of the Roshan Digital Account, he added.
So far, he said, the country has 88,000 accounts in over 97 countries.
Continuing, he said it has helped stabilize the rupee.
PM Khan gave instructions to the State Bank of Pakistan that it should open a special cell to encourage overseas Pakistanis to open a Roshan Digital Account.
He further stressed that the new program would educate about a focused and creative publicity strategy for overseas Pakistanis. He was optimistic that this would improve the number of accounts
