Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Minister of Finance and Deputy Ruler of Dubai died at the age of 75.

According to news in the media, UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced his brother’s death in a tweet.

Sheikh Mohammed had tweeted prayers and good wishes for his brother earlier this month.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid has also served as Minister of Finance. Dubai has announced a 10-day mourning period following the death of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with all government departments and offices closed for three days.

He also ruled over a number of high-level government bodies, including the Dubai Municipality, the Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai Aluminum (DUBAL), Dubai Natural Gas Company Limited, and the Dubai World Trade Centre, to name a few. ‎

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President, has announced a 3-day mourning period in honor of Sheikh Hamdan’s death.

Sheikh Khalifa, according to the international news agency, has requested that the UAE flag be flown at half-mast beginning today. Sheikh Khalifa has also directed that the flag be lifted on March 27.
