Nancy Pelosi has now decided to step down but she will remain as a speaker till January.
She will also remain the in the congressional seat till January 2025. She first took that position in 1987.
Speaker of the house represents an extremely important position as they study the nature of the bills, and they decide which bills are to be voted for.
The speakers have the power to pass the bill and make a change for the better.
After being in this powerful congressional position for two decades, Pelosi has decided to say goodbye.
About her leaving she said, “I never would have thought that someday I would go from homemaker to House speaker.”
She further added, “I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress. The hour has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus.”
It is expected that New York congressman, Hakeem Jefferies will take the top position.
