PIA Unveils New Cabin Crew Uniforms Designed by HSY

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has unveiled a new cabin crew uniform collection designed by renowned Pakistani fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, widely known as HSY, as the national carrier prepares to introduce a refreshed onboard identity.
The redesigned uniforms combine contemporary tailoring with elements of Pakistani cultural heritage, reflecting the airline’s focus on modernising its passenger experience and strengthening its international image.
According to PIA, the collection will make its debut on October 31, 2026, aboard the airline’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad.
The launch marks a new chapter in PIA’s efforts to refresh its image under its consortium-led new management, with the airline placing emphasis on passenger comfort, crew confidence and a more contemporary presentation.
HSY Brings Pakistani Fashion to PIA
The new PIA cabin crew uniforms bring together Pakistani textile traditions and international tailoring under the creative direction of HSY, one of the country’s prominent fashion designers.
Known for his couture collections and work with celebrities, HSY has built a reputation for presenting Pakistani fashion to international audiences.
The designer said creating uniforms for the national flag carrier involved representing Pakistan’s identity and the hospitality associated with its people.
“Designing for our national flag carrier is about capturing our collective pride and the genuine warmth of Pakistani hospitality,” HSY said.
He added that the collection was developed to help crew members feel confident and comfortable while respecting Pakistan’s heritage and reflecting modern fashion trends.
The uniforms are intended to present a consistent visual identity for PIA employees at airports and onboard flights around the world.
New Uniforms Focus on Comfort and Functionality
PIA said the collection follows a lifestyle-first approach, balancing appearance with the practical demands of airline operations.
The designs feature breathable fabrics, structured tailoring and silhouettes intended to support movement during long-haul flights. Durability and ergonomic considerations also informed the collection’s development.
The airline said the colour palette and detailing incorporate subtle references to Pakistan’s cultural craftsmanship while maintaining the professional appearance required in commercial aviation.
Cabin crew uniforms serve both practical and visual purposes, helping employees perform their duties while contributing to passengers’ first impressions of an airline.
The latest designs aim to combine these requirements with a contemporary style that reflects PIA’s renewed branding ambitions.
PIA Continues Its Fashion Legacy
PIA has a long history of working with internationally recognised designers to create distinctive cabin crew uniforms.
In 1966, French fashion designer Pierre Cardin created uniforms featuring an A-line tunic and hood, establishing a distinctive look for the airline during an era when aviation fashion attracted international attention.
The airline’s fashion legacy continued in the 1970s when British designer Sir Hardy Amies, known for his work as a royal couturier, contributed refined tailoring to its uniform designs.
More recently, Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari influenced PIA’s uniform styling for approximately 12 years.
The appointment of HSY continues this tradition of bringing established fashion talent into the design of the national carrier’s cabin crew attire.
The new collection also highlights the role Pakistani designers can play in representing the country’s creative industries through internationally visible platforms.
Ten Designers Participated in the Selection Process
According to the announcement, the final design emerged from a competitive showcase held in Karachi, where 10 leading Pakistani fashion designers presented their concepts to a jury comprising fashion figures and industry representatives.

The collaborative process brought different creative approaches together before the final collection was selected.
PIA’s decision to involve established designers reflects the importance the airline places on its visual identity as it works to modernise its services and public image.
The uniform launch is part of a broader effort to present a refreshed image to domestic and international passengers.
New Uniforms to Debut on London-Islamabad Flight
PIA’s spokesperson said passengers would not have to wait long to see the redesigned uniforms in service.
The collection is scheduled to make its official debut on October 31, 2026, during the airline’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad.
The launch will bring together the airline’s refreshed cabin crew appearance and the introduction of its new aircraft service on the route.
The announcement places renewed attention on PIA’s efforts to strengthen its international presence through updated branding, improved presentation and a more contemporary passenger experience.
With HSY leading the uniform design, the airline is drawing on Pakistan’s fashion industry to communicate a combination of cultural identity, hospitality and modern aviation style.
The success of the new collection will ultimately depend not only on its appearance but also on how effectively the uniforms support cabin crew in their daily responsibilities while reinforcing PIA’s renewed identity.
