#PAKvSA: 14 wickets fell on the first day of Test match

Karachi: The South Africa-Pakistan test series took an exciting start, with the match on the first day in Karachi evenly-poised at stumps. As ICC describes it “an eventful day of Test cricket as 14 wickets fell on the opening day of the first #PAKvSA Test in Karachi.’

A Test match is being played at the National Stadium Karachi after 14 years in which Pakistan and South Africa are playing in the first match of a two-Test series.

The magic of Pakistani spinners worked in the Test and the South African team was bowled out for 220 in their first innings.

Captain Quinton de Kock of South Africa earlier won the toss and decided to bat at the National Stadium in Karachi in the first Test against Pakistan.

Soon after lunch, South Africa was well-placed at 108-2, but lost its last eight wickets for just 112 runs, narrowly managing to overhaul its lowest total in Pakistan, the 214 made in 1997 at Faisalabad.

The damage was done by the spinners Yasir Shah (3-54), debutant Nauman Ali (2-38) and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi (2-49).

In a blend of three pacers and two spinners, Pakistan handed test caps to 34-year-old left-arm spinner Nauman Ali and 25-year-old opener Imran Butt.

The two-match Test series marks the first South African trip to Pakistan in 14 years, a promising step in the host country’s revival of international cricket.
