Sadiq Sanjrani elected as a Senate chairman

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani has been defeated and Sadiq Sanjarani has been elected chairman Senate in the election held, today, 12 March.

In the election of Chairman Senate, 98 out of 99 senators cast their votes while Senator Mushtaq Ahmed was the exception Jamaat-e-Islami.

Amongst all, 7 voters stamped the name of Yousuf Raza Gilani which resulted in the rejection of these votes.

One vote was rejected because both candidates were sealed.

It should be noted that Yousuf Raza Gilani’s opponent was Sadiq Sanjarani, nominated by the PTI government. Earlier in the March 3 Senate election, Yousuf Raza Gilani was the opposition candidate from Islamabad and his opponent was Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of the government.

In the Senate election, Yousuf Raza Gilani had defeated Abdul Hafeez Sheikh by an upset, after which the PDM nominated him as the candidate for the post of Chairman Senate.
