KARACHI: The nation pays tribute to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) pilot, Mohammad Mahmood Alam, on his 8th death anniversary, who became a hero of the 1965 war. The nation is remembering the great achievement by the national hero whose record still remained unbeaten even after so many years.
During the 1965 war, MM Alam shot down five Indian Air Force (IAF) jets in under a minute, setting a world record for the most jets shot down in the shortest time.
While piloting an F-86 Sabre, Alam, called “Little Dragon” by the media, shot down five Indian warplanes in less than a minute and downed nine warplanes in aerial combat.
Alam died in Karachi on March 18, 2013, at the age of 77, after a long illness. He resigned as an Air Commodore in 1982.
When India declared war on Pakistan in the late hours of the night in 1965, Alam, the first commanding officer of the first squadron of Assaults Mirage III, flew his F-86 Sabre jet plane armed with AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles over the skies of Sargodha to defeat the invaders.
