Australia calls for throne abolishment

In the aftermath of the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry controversy, Australia has called for the throne to be dismantled.

According to reports, an Australian Labor MP is strongly considering ending Australia’s links to the British throne and its membership in the Commonwealth.

“I believe it’s time for Australians to launch a serious debate about our next head of state,” said MP Matt Thistlethawaite in an interview with Express.

“We ought to have a serious conversation about recognizing our dignity and wisdom, the fact that we rule ourselves and making our own choices, and we should represent that by choosing one of our own as our president.”

“At the end of the day, Australia’s future has very little to do with the British royal family; the Queen herself said that this is a choice for the Australian people, and I completely agree.”

“I believe the time has come for us to resume that serious conversation, for our political leaders to put this back on the table and begin discussing with the Australian people how we might make a sensible transition, through an education campaign, a referendum campaign, and ultimately appointing one of our own as our head of state.”

“An Australian is worthy of serving as our country’s leader. Let’s get to work on nominating one of our own to this role.”
