During Pakistan’s latest ODI tour of South Africa, Babar Azam has received a lot of acclaim from various quarters. The team not only won the ODI series, but skipper Babar Azam also led from the front, scoring runs in two of the three matches.
Ali Zafar, a singer and actor, took to social media to congratulate the Pakistani captain for becoming the world’s best batsman.
According to a tweet by cricket statistician and journalist Mazher Arshad on Thursday, Azam will need 70 or more runs in the final ODI against South Africa to dethrone Kohli.
In the third One-Day International, the Pakistan skipper did all he could to not only dethrone Kohli but also to help his team give South Africa a formidable number.
Babar missed out on a century in the match, but his inning helped Pakistan reach 320-7 in their allotted 50 overs.
Babar was six runs shy of his 14th ODI century when he was dismissed on the last ball. He had hit three sixes and seven fours in his 94 runs from 62 hits.
As soon as Babar’s innings finished, social media users began to congratulate him on his achievement.
The ICC, cricket’s global governing body, has yet to announce the latest ODI player rankings. In the new rankings, Babar is predicted to have a one-point advantage over Kohli.
