Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, married in a modest ceremony in Birmingham on Tuesday, the education campaigner announced on Twitter.
The education campaigner tweeted on the microblogging website: “Today is a significant day in my life. Asser and I exchanged vows to be life mates. We had a tiny nikkah ceremony with our family at home in Birmingham. Please offer us your well-wishes. We’re looking forward to embarking on this trip together.”
Malala also shared four images from her nikkah ceremony, in which she was photographed with her newlywed husband, Asser, and her parents, Ziauddin and Toor Pekai Yousafzai.
Today marks a precious day in my life.
Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.

Her father said the occasion was “beyond words” on Twitter.

Malala’s infamous Vogue interview
The announcement of Malala’s nikkah has prompted a range of reactions on the Internet, from ‘Pakistani mother pressure’ to ‘becoming cricketing royalty.’
Malala expressed her controversial views on marriage in an interview with British Vogue earlier this year. She spoke with British Vogue about her opinion on marriage, revealing that her parents had an “arranged marriage”.
“I still don’t understand why people have to get married,” she remarked.
She continued, “If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”.
She also said that her mother disagrees with her. Her remarks and views on marriage sparked a debate on social media and people grew enraged.
