The nation is celebrating Pakistan’s diamond jubilee today as it marks its 75th Independence Day.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised to convert the country into an economic power.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in all provincial headquarters.
Following Premiere’s address the flag-hoisting ceremony attended by various dignitaries and civil and military leadership amongst others at the Jinnah Convention center, Shehbaz Sharif mentioned the flood victims, special those from Balochistan, and made prayer for the maghfirat of those who lost their lives and speedy recovery of the injured, PM Shehbaz maintained an emotional and positive tone.
PM also mentioned the Pakistan Movement as a testament that “when a nation devised the course of its path, the mountain-like hurdles and seas-like distances could not hamper them from achieving their goal”.
Saluting the country’s founding fathers, the Premiere applauded their courage to “smash pessimism” and attributed their “historic struggle” as the reason why “we are now breathing in an independence and sovereign country”.
Expanding tribute to all those that lost their precious lives for the country, PM Shehbaz said that the struggle for independence came after “decades of foreign subjugation”.
He also paid homage to civil society, writers and thinkers of the country.
