A massive earthquake of magnitude 5.6 hit the country Indonesia and near to areas to south of Jakarta killing 268 people

The earthquake in Indonesia happened on Monday and since then the death toll has increased to 268 people.

It has been reported that many of the victims who got affected were school children.

The search and rescue agency confirmed that many of the deaths consist of young children. They reported,

“Most of the casualties are children because at 1pm, they were still at school.”

The authorities revealed that the earthquake had a depth of 10km which caused a lot of damage.

However, the damage worsened because of the aftershocks that followed the earthquake.

The officials say that the earthquake wounded more than 1000 people. They also revealed that 22,000 houses got damaged and 58,000 people had to leave their homes to settle in other regions.

Moreover, they said that more than 150 people are still missing.

Indonesian president Joko Widodo visited the disaster site and said, “My instruction is to prioritise evacuating victims that are still trapped under rubble.”
