PM Shahbaz Sharif chose Lieutenant Asim Muneer as the next Chief of Army Staff who is an accomplished and respected Lieutenant.

After an immense speculation and anticipation as to who will succeed General Qamar Javed Bajwa? PM Shahbaz Sharif made his decision today.

Premier appointed Lieutenant General Asim Muneer as the new Chief of Army Staff.

His appointment summary is pending as it is forwarded to President Arif Alvi for approval.

About the new COAS, Asim Muneer was promoted as a two star general in September 2018.

He went to Officers Training Programme in Mangla, after which he entered services, and then was commissioned to Frontier Force Regiment.

Moreover, he commanded the troops as a brigadier in Force Command Northern areas alongside the outgoing COAS General Qamar Bajwa.

In 2017, Muneer was appointed as the Military Intelligence Director general.

In the later part of 2017, He became the chief of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

However, after few months he was replaced by Lieutenant general Faiz Hamid. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan insisted on this decision.

Also, Asim Muneer then became the Gujranwala Corps Commander.

And now based on the decision of PM Shahbaz, he has become the Chief of Army Staff..
