Hijab is an essential part of the Muslim culture. It is a dress code for women that covers their bodies from head to toe. In fact, hijab is not just about clothing it also refers to the whole character of a person.

Muslims often wear the hijab, which is a religious head covering. It typically hides the hair and neck. The majority of Muslim women keep their hair covered and avoid wearing tight attire.

Some western people avoid covering themselves as they think it looks conservative and backward. In the past many incidents when a girl in hijab was targeted and bullied for her dress choice. Covering one face and body is something people try to shun.

However, people don’t seem to know the real benefits of covering their faces and bodies.

We always see actors and actresses getting embarrassed for wearing short clothes. This is not because others threw bad remarks about their attire but because such outfits put people in an awkward situation.

Girls who wear hijab never encounter any embarrassing moments in fact they are very happy and are aware of the benefits of covering themselves.

In this regard, let’s take a look at some of the benefits of wearing a hijab.

It protects you from sunlight

It protects your skin from harmful UV rays that cause sunburns, wrinkles and skin cancer; it also reduces susceptibility to skin infections such as acne and eczema because it prevents excessive sweating which promotes bacterial growth on the skin surface (especially if wearing synthetic fabrics) – so it’s better for your skin!

According to a statement, unprotected exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin, eyes, and immune system.” The chances of damage are decreased when girls cover themselves. Many girls are happy with the fact that their Abaya protects them from the sun and other harmful rays. They also love to cover their faces.

Saves Time

Well, some people take too much time to get dressed especially girls who are college/university and office goers. Even when you don’t wear so much makeup, getting dressed and making your hair can consume a lot of your time. Women who wear hijab and observe parda don’t have to fret about it all. Just put on an abaya, headscarf and face cover and there you go! You can wear whatever you want under your abaya.

In fact, in many Arab countries where hijab and abaya are obligatory tend to wear jeans and tops.

Saves you from Mosquito bite

Dengue is a viral disease that is transmitted through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains and rashes on the body. More than 6000 people had fallen prey to the dengue virus in Karachi recently.

Wearing a hijab will help protect you from these diseases as it keeps your body covered and prevents mosquitoes from biting you.

Hijab protects you from unwanted attention

Wearing a hijab will not only keep you safe from diseases but will also stop unwanted attention from men who might be interested in you. By covering yourself up completely, men are less likely to bother you or harass you because they won’t be able to see what’s underneath your outfit!

Protects hair

People who go out in the open and do not cover their heads are familiar with hair damage. Just like skin, our hair is also subjected to suffer great damage from pollution, dust and sunlight. But female students and working women who wear hijab do not have to worry about all these problems.

Covering your head has also other benefits as Dr Alex Ginzburg, a dermatologist puts it that “covering the head does not cause hair loss”. Besides making your outfit look more stylish, a hair scarf also helps protect your hair from the sun and dust.

Protects from Dirt and Allergy

Since there is so much pollution and dirt in the air leaving your face, hands and feet uncovered can lead to cause skin allergies. People living in Karachi encounter skin irritation, pimples and other related problems due to an increase in dust and pollution. Covering your body and face will be a safe bet to help you protect your skin from different skin allergies.

Because they are hypoallergenic, head coverings and face coverings are unlikely to trigger an allergic reaction. Additionally, they resist allergens including dust mites, mould, and fungus.

Boosts confidence

The hijab gives women an opportunity to feel more confident in their own skin. It can also help them feel more secure, as they are less likely to be objectified by men.

When a woman wears the hijab, she is able to fully focus on her work without having to worry about her appearance or how she looks. This allows her to be in control of her own appearance and how she presents herself in the world.

During the Covid pandemic, it was made obligatory to wear masks. According to science, it helps curb germs to get to the other person. Therefore, wearing face masks has a lot of benefits.

In the past few years, there has been a strong push for Muslim women to cover themselves. This movement began in France with the banning of the niqab (the face veil) and burkini (a full-body swimsuit) and was later adopted by other countries such as Belgium and Germany.

While this movement is based on a patriarchal idea that women are not equal to men, I believe it is important for Muslim girls to continue wearing hijabs in order to preserve their identity as Muslims and show solidarity with other Muslims who may be forced to take off their hijabs.
