Shahid Afridi is appointed as the new head of Pakistan’s men’s cricket selection committee for the match series against New Zealand.
Pakistan Cricket Board management (PCB) chairman, Najam Sethi decided against appointing Shahid Afridi as the interim head of the selection committee.
As soon as Afridi took this position, he immediately implemented his decision regarding who will be part of the team. Boom Boom Afridi decided to include fast bowlers Mir Hamza and Shahnawaz Dahani, and off-spinner Sajid Khan.
Shahid Afridi talked with the media after assuming his position. One of the reporters asked him about the return of Sarafarz Ahmed to which Afridi replied that he has discussions with Babar Azam and Babar suggested that there should be someone to distribute the workload.
Moreover, Afridi mentioned that there are players who are playing all three forms of cricket and that can be quite exhausting for players. Therefore, senior players should be part of the team to balance the team.
Also, he said that the addition of three fast bowlers was necessary, especially after the injury of Naseem Shah.
About Babar Azam he said, “We have basically come here to support him, share our experiences and to help him out in the areas in which I think there can be [further] improvement.”
