The year 2022 was a mixture of many experiences as we witnessed big changes with reference to climate, politics, and media. With all of the turn of events, we had to say goodbye to some of our notable Pakistani individuals and undoubtedly they will be greatly missed.

Here is the list:

Rasheed Naz

Rasheed Naz, a well-known performer in Pakistan’s entertainment business, died on January 17 at the age of 73.

Rasheed Naz had a long and successful career after being born in Peshawar in 1948. He debuted on television in 1971 as an actor in a Pushto play. His first Urdu drama was “Aik Tha Gaoon” (1973). His debut play, “Namoos,” was a success. Additionally, he took part in “Dasht,” the first private television play to premiere on NTM in Pakistan.

The well-known actor has participated in a number of plays in Pashto, Hindko, and Urdu. Naz worked on his debut Pashto film, “Zama Jang” (Meri Jang), in 1988 in addition to Urdu movies.

Rehman Malik

Rehman Malik, a prominent member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and a former interior minister, passed away on February 23 at the age of 70.

He died of Covid-19-related complications at an Islamabad hospital. He is survived by Mrs Malik and two sons.

The PPP senator, who obtained an honorary doctorate from the University of Karachi, served as the country’s interior minister from 2008 until 2013. Rehman Malik was born in Sialkot in 1951.

Dr Mehdi Hasan

Dr. Mehdi Hasan, a professor of mass communication, died on February 23 after a long illness. He was 85 and is survived by his wife Rakhshanda Hasan and sons.

Dr. Hasan was a Pakistani left-wing journalist, media historian, dean of journalism and mass communication at the Beaconhouse National University, and professor of mass communication at the Punjab University. He was given the most prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in 2012 for his services to journalism. He also worked as a teacher for more than 50 years.

Masood Akhtar

Masood Akhtar, a renowned actor, passed away on March 5 in Lahore. The 82-year-old spent a few months of battling lung cancer.

On September 5, 1940, in Sahiwal, Akhtar was born. He has prominent parts in a variety of dramas, movies, and plays. He also received the “Pride of Performance Award” for his contributions to the arts.

Bilquis Edhi

After a brief hospital stay on April 15, Bilquis Bano Edhi, a well-known humanitarian and philanthropist who was also Abdul Sattar Edhi’s wife, passed away at the age of 74. She was a famous personality, who alongside of her late husband, Abdul Sattar Edhi . The kindness and compassion with which she served mankind will be missed by the nation.

Tanveer Jamal

Veteran Pakistani actor and director Tanveer Jamal lost his life on July 13th 2022 after battling against cancer.

The actor was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and had relocated to Japan for treatment.

In his successful career of 35 long years, Jamal has played key roles in prominent dramas including Godfather, Tasweer and Teri Raza.

The multi-talented artist was born on 30th June 1960. He married to a beautiful Japanese lady and had three kids with her. His family lives in Japan.

Aamir Liaquat

One of Pakistan’s most prominent and contentious TV hosts, Aamir Liaquat Hussain was born on July 5, 1971, in Karachi, to politician Sheikh Liaquat Hussain and columnist Mahmooda Sultana

Aamir Liaquat Hussain was a Televangelist and Member of National Assembly (MNA). He switched from televangelism to politics, becoming an MP for Imran Khan’s PTI party.

His career was dogged by controversy and remained in news for marriages.

The outspoken anchor’s personal life was often fuelled by his activities on social media.

Aamir Liaquat passed away in Karachi on June 9.

Liaquat, 50, was found unconscious at his home. He was shifted to a private hospital in a critical condition. Later, doctors said Liaquat was dead when he was brought to the hospital.

Nayyara Noor

After a brief illness, renowned vocalist Nayyara Noor died on August 20 in Karachi at the age of 71.

One of the best playback singers in Pakistan was Noor, referred to as the “melody queen” of that nation. She didn’t have any professional musical instruction or schooling, but she showed off her natural singing ability all over the subcontinent..

She spent her early years in Guwahati, Assam, where she was born on November 3, 1950. In 1973, Noor was awarded the Nigar Award for Best Playback Singer in the film “Gharana”. In 1977, her reputation peaked as the songs of the film “Aaina” touched the hearts of Pakistanis.

Manzoor Junior

Olympian Manzoor Hussain Jr was a shining star of Pakistan Hockey. The player was born in October 28, 1958 in Sialkot.

Manzoor was undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Lahore due to a heart attack which he could not survive. He passed away due to a heart attack on August 2022

Asad Rauf

Asad Rauf, a former Pakistani elite panel umpire for the International Cricket Council (ICC), passed away on September 15 at the age of 66 after having a heart arrest in Lahore.

In his career as an umpire, Rauf officiated 64 Tests, 49 of which as on-field umpire and 15 as TV umpire, 139 ODIs and 28 T20Is.

 

Arshad Sharif

Senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif was fatally shot by Kenyan police While travelling from Kenya’s Magadi Town to Nairobi on October 23 in a “mistaken identity” case.

 

On the evening of October 23, a Pakistani journalist, Arshad Muhammad Sharif, 50, was shot by the Kenyan police within the limits of Kajiado County.

He was famous for his investigative journalism. Arshad Sharif’s father was a Commander in the Pakistan Navy. Arshad Sharif was born on February 22, 1973 in Karachi. He began his career IN 1993 as a journalist by working as a freelancer. He attended Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad to earn his Master of Science degree in Public Administration there.

Ismail Tara

Pakistani veteran actor and comedian Ismail Tara breathed his last on November 24, 2022 at the age of 73 in Karachi.

The legendary TV star, who received so much fame with his spectacular performance in Pakistani drama “Fifty Fifty”, was under treatment in a private hospital of Karachi.

Tara was a five time Nigar Awards winner for the best comedian. He was born in November 16 in 1949.
