JEDDAH – A clip that has went viral on all social media platforms shows the first-ever snowfall in Islam’s holiest site Masjid al-Haram.

The Haramain Sharifain on their official page and website cleared the air of confusion by calling it a “fake video” on Sunday.

Social media users are in awe after seeing a doctored video showing fake snowfall in the Great Mosque of Mecca and began sharing a clip. However the 28-second video was of rain fall that in the city but it turned out to be digitally altered.

The Saudi Authorities took notice of the video and issued a statement with the fake clip still doing rounds on the internet.

Haramain Sharifain quoted on Sunday that the National Meteorological Center said a video clip recently circulated on social media purportedly showing snowfall in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah is fake.

The clarification came as the fake video began trending on all media social sites.

The clip was doctored by using some filters of an online mobile application that allows users to edit videos with AI.

However it should be noted that a rain alert has been issued for several regions including Makkah, Jeddah, Rabigh, and Al-Kamil.

Met office has said that the continuation of showers accompanied by activity in surface winds, high waves, hail, torrential rains, and low visibility yet some northern regions of Saudi Arabia are expected to receive snowfall other than in any of the holy sites.
