Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Arden has decided to step down as the prime minister because of burnout ahead of the elections in October.

42-year-old PM revealed that her journey has been challenging and being a prime minister for six long and challenging years has taken a toll on her because of the pressures of the job.

Also, the polling before the elections indicates that her Labours Party will have a difficult time during the re-elections and might lose the elections.

She was elected as the Prime Minister at the age of 37 making her the youngest woman PM in history in 2017. Jacinda revealed that she will step down by the 7th of February. She further mentioned that she has taken a lot of time to develop a plan for her future and to find the strength to rule the country again but she said, “unfortunately I haven’t, and I would be doing a disservice to New Zealand to continue.”

During her premiership, she steered New Zealand through Covid pandemic, recession, attack on Christchurch mosque shootings, and White Island volcanic eruptions. About these tough situations, she said, “These events… have been taxing because of the weight, the sheer weight and continual nature of them. There’s never really been a moment where it’s ever felt like we were just governing.”

However, she also mentioned that her years as PM were fulfilling. She even gave birth while holding the office.

International community admired her fierceness, courage, and leadership qualities. However, the polls suggested that she was rather unpopular at homeland.
