During his premiership, former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif introduced the laptop scheme in higher education according to which students will get access to good laptops.
After Nawaz Sharif, former prime minister, Imran Khan discontinued this scheme to save resources and spend according to budget.
Now, Prime minister Shahbaz Sharif has decided to launch this scheme again for University students with a budget of Rs. 10 million.
Ahsan Iqbal, minister of planning and development addressed a ceremony in which he mentioned the launch of laptop scheme. He also suggested that the scheme will provide 100,000 laptops to University Students to empower them to work digitally.
Ahsan Iqbal noted that National Bank of Pakistan (NBA) has also been asked to develop laptop leasing products so that every university student has access to an affordable laptop.
The planning minister further said that given the size of young population, Pakistan can turn Information Technology into one of its competitive advantages.
