Shoaib Hashmi, renowned playwright passes away

Shoaib Hashmi, renowned celebrated intellectual, teacher, and playwright, actor and academic passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness, as confirmed by his son.

Hashmi was a theatre legend who had written several shows, including Akkar Bakkar, Sach Gupp, and Taal Matol.

He had an impressive academic background, including a master’s degree in economics from Government College Lahore (GCL) and an MSc degree from the prestigious London School of Economics.

Hashmi was honored with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz and the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.

Shoaib Hashmi was the son-in-law of the legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz and the husband of Salima Hashmi. He is survived by a son and daughter.
