The cyclone “Biparjoy” has gained strength and is rapidly advancing towards the coastal regions.

As of 1900 hrs PST, the cyclone was positioned near Latitude 21.9°N and Longitude 66.3°E, approximately 370km south-southwest of Karachi and 290km south-southwest of Keti Bandar.

With maximum sustained surface winds of 150-160 Km/hour and gusts reaching 180 Km/hour around its center, Tropical Cyclone “Biparjoy” is demonstrating its intensity. Sea conditions in the vicinity of the system center are described as phenomenal, with an alarming maximum wave height of 30 feet.

The cyclone is presently moving in a north-northeast direction.

Experts emphasize that the cyclone’s intensity is being supported by favorable environmental conditions, including a sea surface temperature of 29-30°C, low vertical wind shear, and upper-level divergence. These factors are anticipated to sustain the cyclone’s strength as it progresses.

The latest forecasts suggest that Tropical Cyclone “Biparjoy” will continue its trajectory in a north-northeastward direction and is expected to make landfall between Keti Bandar in Southeast Sindh and the Indian Gujarat coast on the afternoon or evening of June 15.

At that time, it is projected to transform into a very severe cyclonic storm, with winds blowing at speeds of 100-120 Km/hour, gusting up to 140 km/hour.

The NEOC Technical team, utilizing international and national models such as PMD-NWPM, NASA, PDC & UKM, IMD, BOM-A, and ECMWF, has generated these projections. In response to the potential threat, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory, urging residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant.
