Tensions escalated in the Middle East, raising fears of a full-scale war, as Iran fired a barrage of missiles at Israel on Tuesday. The attack came in response to the killing of Lebanese Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other Iran-backed militants. Palestinian youths in Ramallah, located in the occupied West Bank, were seen inspecting a fallen projectile after the strike.

Iran’s missile attack, the largest ever on Israel, reportedly involved between 150 and 200 projectiles. This marked the second such assault on Israel in 2024, following a missile and drone attack in April. That attack had been in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

IDF Confirms Attack by Iran

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Iran launched around 180 missiles, many of which were intercepted. However, some struck Israeli territory and the West Bank, causing at least one death and several injuries. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

In response, Israel vowed swift retaliation, heightening fears of a full-scale war. Israeli strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon continued, with reports of heavy fighting in southern Lebanon. Israel has also issued warnings to its citizens to avoid vehicle travel in the area.

Celebrations erupted in Tehran following Iran’s missile attack, while Hezbollah claimed it had forced Israeli soldiers to retreat from a Lebanese town. Meanwhile, Israel continued its assault on Gaza shelters, where about 90 percent of residents have been displaced.

The situation remains fluid, with no signs of de-escalation. International observers fear the conflict could spread further, destabilizing the region and drawing in more countries. As both sides prepare for more retaliation, the world watches closely.
