JERUSALEM: At least 87 people died following an airstrike on Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, according to the health ministry in the Palestinian territory. This attack resulted in one of the highest death tolls from a single strike in months.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli strikes hit a residential building in Haret Hreik, South Beirut, near a mosque and a hospital. The Israeli military claimed they targeted the “command center of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters” along with an underground weapons facility. They also stated that their strikes killed three Hezbollah militants.
These strikes on Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusation that the Iran-backed group attempted to assassinate him by targeting his residence. The attacks coincided with the week-long Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
The fighting’s intensity became evident when NNA reported 14 Israeli strikes within just 15 minutes on the border village of Khiam. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant informed troops on Sunday that the military was increasing its strikes on Hezbollah. He emphasized that they aimed to “destroy them in places that Hezbollah planned to use as launchpads for attacks against Israel.”
In southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army, which has not engaged in the war, reported that Israeli strikes killed three of its soldiers. The strikes targeted their vehicle, highlighting the escalating violence in the region.

In Gaza, the civil defense agency reported that an Israeli airstrike on a residential area in Beit Lahiya resulted in at least 73 Palestinian deaths. Agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal stated, “Our civil defense crews recovered 73 martyrs and a large number of wounded as a result of the Israeli air force targeting a residential area.”
Kamal Adwan Hospital, overwhelmed with wounded patients, struggled to provide adequate care. Many patients received treatment on the floor, while nearby, the deceased were wrapped in white burial shrouds and placed in neat rows for grieving relatives.
The Jeddah-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the airstrike “in the strongest terms.” The organization described Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “stain on the conscience of humanity.”
In southern Lebanon, NNA reported that Israeli strikes targeted multiple locations, including the city of Nabatiyeh, marking the third attack in the area this week. The ongoing violence continues to escalate tensions in the region, impacting both Gaza and Lebanon as civilians bear the brunt of the conflict.
The situation remains dire, with humanitarian concerns growing as more families are affected by the strikes. As international calls for restraint and peace continue, the conflict shows no signs of abating, and the toll on civilians mounts with each passing day.
