PITTSBURGH: New York Jets guard Xavier Newman was carted off the field with a neck injury during Sunday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

Newman sustained the injury in the third quarter while defending on an interception return. He was knocked off his feet by Pittsburgh linebacker Patrick Queen, who was blocking during the play. Newman, weighing 297 pounds and standing 6-foot-2, landed on his back and remained motionless for several minutes.

Medical personnel rushed to his aid, and Newman was placed on a spineboard. Players from both teams gathered around him in concern as he received treatment.

Newman was taken to a local hospital via ambulance. According to NBC Sports, Newman had movement in his limbs, which provided some relief for his teammates and fans.

Newman was filling in for starting guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, who left the game earlier due to an ankle injury.

The Jets have not provided further updates on Newman’s condition. His status will be closely monitored as the team hopes for a swift recovery.
