KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially notified a new minimum wage of Rs37,000 per month for workers, effective from July 2024. sources reported the announcement on Tuesday.
According to the notification, all industrial and business firms in the province must comply with the new minimum wage standard. Employers are required to ensure their workers receive Rs37,000 monthly. The notification also clarified that workers already earning more than the minimum wage will not see any reduction in their pay.
The decision came after approval from Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The Sindh Minimum Wage Board had previously revised the wages for factory workers last year. Chairman of the board, Zulfiqar Ali Nizamani, had set the minimum wage at Rs33,280 for skilled workers and Rs32,000 for unskilled workers, with implementation starting from July 1, 2023.
Nizamani emphasized that factory owners must adhere to the new wage requirements, and any objections to the decision can be submitted within 14 days. He also warned that action will be taken against employers who fail to meet the minimum wage obligations.
