RAWALPINDI: Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on the night of October 23-24. As a result, they eliminated nine terrorists including two suicide bombers and a key ringleader, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the operation’s success on Thursday.
The operation specifically targeted Said Muhammad, known as “Qureshi Ustad.” He was a ringleader actively involved in planning attacks against security forces and civilians. An intense exchange of fire ensued, ultimately leading to his death.
Following this, security forces initiated a sanitisation operation. Their goal was to root out any remaining threats in the area. During this operation, they recovered large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and explosives. The military’s media wing emphasized their commitment to eradicating terrorism from Pakistan.
Recent Operations and Trends
This operation in Bajaur follows recent successful IBOs. During these operations, security forces apprehended five militants in Balochistan’s Pishin district. Additionally, they killed two terrorists in a separate operation in Zhob district. These actions are part of a broader initiative by the government and security forces to combat rising terrorism.
According to the third quarterly report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), terrorist activities have resulted in more fatalities this year than last. Specifically, in the first three quarters of 2024, terrorists caused 1,534 deaths, surpassing the 1,523 fatalities for all of 2023. The report also highlights that attackers killed 722 individuals in 328 incidents during the third quarter alone. This figure includes civilians, security personnel, and criminals.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain at the forefront of Pakistan’s battle against terrorism. They have suffered the most from recent attacks. The military’s ongoing operations reflect a determined effort to confront this increasing threat. Their goal is to ensure the safety of citizens and security forces alike.
