The death toll from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, also known internationally as Trami, has surged to 90 in the Philippines, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). With many still missing and the destruction widespread, Kristine’s impact has left communities devastated and thousands homeless. The NDRRMC has declared 158 areas under a state of calamity, mobilizing government resources to aid affected populations and accelerate recovery efforts.

Rising Death Toll and Missing Persons

The NDRRMC reported that 90 fatalities have been confirmed across the affected areas, with at least 30 people still unaccounted for. Officials have warned that this number could rise as rescue and recovery operations continue in heavily impacted regions. Many of the casualties occurred due to landslides, which have trapped residents and caused significant structural damage to homes and infrastructure.

Landslides and Widespread Destruction

In Talisay, Batangas province, massive landslides triggered by Kristine swept through communities, burying homes and displacing residents. Thousands of families have lost their homes, and survivors are struggling to salvage belongings from the debris.
