RAWALPINDI: In a major anti-terror effort, a young Pakistan Army officer and two soldiers were martyred while nine militants, referred to as “khwarij,” were killed in two separate Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The operations took place on Wednesday, targeting militant activity in Bakka Khel, Bannu District, and Zhob District.
Security forces carried out an IBO in the general area of Bakka Khel, Bannu District, after receiving intelligence reports on the presence of militants. The troops engaged the location, effectively neutralizing eight militants and injuring seven others.
During the intense firefight, 31-year-old Major Atif Khalil, a brave officer from Sudhanuti, AJK, led his troops from the front. Despite his heroic resistance, Major Khalil embraced martyrdom alongside two fellow soldiers, Naik Azad Ullah, 36, from District Karak, and Lance Naik Ghazanfar Abbas, 35, from District Layyah.
Sacrifice of Brave Soldiers
Major Atif Khalil Shaheed, who served in the Pakistan Army for over eight years, leaves behind his parents, siblings, widow, and a young daughter. Naik Azad Ullah Shaheed had served the nation for 15 years and is survived by his widow, two sons, and a daughter. Lance Naik Ghazanfar Abbas, who served for 14 years, is survived by his widow, a daughter, and a son. Their ultimate sacrifice further strengthens the resolve of Pakistan’s security forces to combat terrorism.

A subsequent sanitization operation was launched in the area to neutralize any remaining threats. The ISPR reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces are united with the nation in their commitment to protecting peace, stability, and progress, particularly in Balochistan.
Pakistan’s Ongoing Fight Against Terrorism
The loss of these brave soldiers highlights Pakistan’s ongoing struggle against terrorism. Despite the challenges, security forces remain dedicated to eradicating the menace of terrorism. “Such sacrifices reinforce our determination to fight until every last militant threat is removed,” the ISPR stated in their press release.
