Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, voiced her frustration with Pakistan’s judicial system. On Monday she stated, during an emotional outburst at a hearing in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, that justice in Pakistan “doesn’t exist.”

Frustration with Judicial System

Bushra Bibi made these remarks at her husband’s bail hearing. She expressed dissatisfaction with what she called “systematic unfairness” for the past nine months. “There is no justice. I didn’t come here seeking justice,” she said, visibly distressed. She questioned the fairness of the judicial process, asking, “Is the person inside [Imran Khan] not a human? Do the judges not see this?” Bushra added that this would be her last appearance, saying she had lost faith in the system.

Criticism of Legal Team

Bushra Bibi also criticized her own legal team, accusing them of wasting time. She expressed readiness to face imprisonment if needed. She claimed she and her husband had been victims of widespread injustice and unfair treatment in Pakistan.

Verdict Reserved on Bail Pleas

The district and session court has reserved its decision on the bail pleas of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in seven cases. Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Afzal Magoo presided over the hearing. Legal representatives for both Khan and Bushra Bibi were present, according to Express News.

Bushra Bibi arrived at the courtroom, and her lawyer, Salman Safdar, asked the court to ensure Imran Khan’s appearance via video link. The cases include six charges against Khan and one against Bushra Bibi, mainly involving alleged fraudulent documentation.

Allegations in Toshakhana Case

Safdar informed the court that five people, including Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Farah, and Shahzad Akbar, are accused in the Toshakhana case for submitting fake receipts. The prosecution alleged that the receipts were part of a fraudulent scheme. Judge Magoo questioned the investigation and demanded evidence of where the receipts were presented.

The prosecutor stated that the receipts were submitted to the Election Commission. When asked if the Election Commission confirmed their authenticity, the prosecutor said yes. Judge Magoo criticized the investigation, saying, “If I follow the law, who are you to file the case? Provide evidence of where the fake receipts were submitted.”

Debate Over Video Link Appearance

Safdar argued that Imran Khan’s appearance by video link was problematic due to technical issues. He urged the court to consider Khan’s direct appearance. The judge issued a warning to the jail superintendent, insisting on Khan’s presence and cautioning that the superintendent would face consequences if he failed to produce him.

Safdar requested the court to rule on Bushra Bibi’s case, given her presence in court. After hearing both sides, the court reserved its decision on the bail pleas.

Multiple Cases in Pakistan

The cases against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were registered in 2023 at several police stations, including Kohsar, Ramna, Tarnol, Karachi Company, and Secretariat. The cases are still under judicial review as the court prepares to issue its verdict.
