The Family Registration Certificate (FRC) is a vital document issued by the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) in Pakistan. This certificate contains essential information about all members of a family. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that citizens have accurate details on record with NADRA, which is necessary for obtaining other official documents.

How to Obtain the FRC

Citizens can acquire the FRC in three different categories: by birth, marriage, or adoption. Each category provides specific information relevant to the family structure.

Birth Category

In the birth category, the FRC lists all family members, including parents and siblings. This option is particularly useful for newborns and young children. Parents can ensure that their children are officially recognized and included in the family record.

Marriage Category

The marriage category allows citizens to obtain an FRC that includes details of their spouse and children. This certificate is essential for newlyweds and families as it formalizes the family unit under NADRA’s records.

Adoption Category

For those who have adopted, the FRC provides details of the adopted child and their guardian. This category highlights the importance of family regardless of biological ties. However, it’s crucial to note that individuals without a NADRA-issued 13-digit ID number cannot be included in the Family Registration Certificate.

How to Apply

To apply for the FRC, citizens can either visit the nearest NADRA Registration Center (NRC) or use the Pak-Identity website for online applications. This flexibility allows individuals to choose the method that best suits their needs.

Overseas Applicants

Pakistanis living abroad must visit their relevant mission office to obtain the Family Registration Certificate. This ensures that expatriates can still maintain their family records despite being outside the country.

Fees for the FRC

NADRA charges a fixed fee for issuing the FRC, just like its other essential certificates. As of November 2024, the fee for obtaining the Family Registration Certificate remains unchanged at Rs1,000. This affordable price allows many citizens to access this critical document.

Importance of the FRC

The Family Registration Certificate serves as a fundamental document for many legal and administrative processes in Pakistan. It is necessary for obtaining passports, national identity cards, and other government services. The FRC also helps to prevent fraud and ensures that family members are properly documented.
