PESHAWAR: Police launched a raid on Sunday to arrest suspects involved in filming and leaking an obscene video of a transgender person, Dolphin Ayan. An official from Peshawar police confirmed that the operation was conducted jointly with Shabqadar police. The goal was to apprehend those accused of using the video for blackmail and extortion.
Raids on Multiple Hideouts
Police targeted four separate hideouts to find the suspects who allegedly recorded the video of Ayan last year. Despite challenges, Peshawar police expressed their resolve to bring the suspects to justice and protect people from harassment and blackmail.
Historic Case Filed Under PECA
In a first for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dolphin Ayan filed a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016. This marks a significant step in addressing harassment against transgender individuals. The case involves seven individuals, charged with harassment, blackmail, and extortion.
Suspects’ Actions and Viral Video
According to Ayan’s complaint, one suspect, Imran, and his accomplices forced her at gunpoint in 2023 to record an obscene video. They later used this video for extortion. Ayan discovered on October 29 that the video had gone viral on social media, causing harm to her reputation and distress for her family.
Police Vow Continued Action
Peshawar police are determined to track down those responsible for the harassment and blackmail. They see this case as setting a precedent for protecting vulnerable communities and combating cyber harassment.
