In a concerning incident in Karachi, a Pakistani security guard opened fire on two Chinese workers at a local textile mill on Tuesday, wounding both individuals. Authorities have confirmed that this incident, which has raised questions about the security of foreign nationals in Pakistan, is not linked to militant activity. The injured Chinese workers are receiving medical care at a nearby hospital, while the guard involved has been detained for questioning.

Security Concerns Raised After Guard Shoots Chinese Workers

China has long called for enhanced security for its citizens working in Pakistan, especially following recent attacks. Just last month, a suicide bombing near Karachi’s airport claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals. The need for heightened security measures has become critical as thousands of Chinese citizens work across Pakistan. They work on significant infrastructure projects under (BRI) as well as in manufacturing sectors like textiles.

Authorities Confirm No Militant Links in Incident

Suhail Jokhoio, spokesperson for the provincial home department, confirmed that authorities are investigating the motive behind the shooting. While the incident does not appear to have been orchestrated by organized groups, officials are nonetheless examining all possible angles to understand the guard’s actions.

The Pakistani government has consistently pledged to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry assured that Pakistan is fully committed to protecting foreign workers. The state will hold those responsible accountable. The ministry also highlighted its close cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad to address the issue.

As the investigation proceeds, Pakistani authorities are working to restore confidence and demonstrate that stringent security measures are in place.
