Donald Trump’s election victory presents a new challenge for Prince Harry. The former US president has consistently criticized the Duke of Sussex since he moved to the US with his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020. Trump called Harry’s departure an “unforgivable betrayal” of his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Trump has also raised concerns about Harry’s legal status in the US. In March 2023, he suggested Harry could face deportation if he didn’t disclose past drug use on his visa application. This remark followed Harry’s admission in his memoir Spare that he had used substances like cocaine, marijuana, and psychedelic mushrooms.

The Heritage Foundation’s Legal Challenge

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, is fighting to make Harry’s visa application public. The group questioned why Harry was allowed to enter the US despite acknowledging his drug use. In September, a lawsuit against the US Department of Homeland Security was rejected. However, on October 22, the foundation filed a new petition to reopen the case and gain access to the application.

Defence Minister Says Trump Unlikely to Call for Imran Khan’s Release

The think tank claims that the release of Harry’s visa application is a matter of “immense public interest.” It argues that the Duke’s failure to declare drug use could be grounds for deportation. In response, Trump has supported the push to make the documents public, indicating that if Harry had lied on his application, “appropriate action” should be taken.

Trump’s Stance on Prince Harry

Trump’s stance on Harry’s future in the US has become increasingly clear. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, Trump criticized Harry for “betraying the Queen” and emphasized that he would not protect him. “He would be on his own if it was up to me,” Trump said at the time.

In March, Trump went further, stating that if authorities discovered that Harry had lied on his visa application, he should face consequences, including possible deportation. “I wouldn’t protect him,” Trump reiterated in an interview with GB News. The possibility of Harry’s visa being revoked is a growing concern for the Duke, as his legal status in the US continues to be scrutinized.

Eric Trump’s View on Harry’s Visa

Despite his father’s harsh rhetoric, Eric Trump, Donald’s son, recently weighed in on Harry’s situation. In an interview with MailOnline, Eric suggested that Harry’s visa was not in jeopardy. He claimed that “no one cares” about the Duke or his wife Meghan Markle, who remain unpopular in certain circles in the US. Eric also expressed that the Trump family still holds great respect for the British monarchy, particularly the late Queen Elizabeth, although he criticized Harry for causing harm to the royal family.

Prince Harry’s Uncertain Future in the US

With Trump’s victory, Prince Harry faces a complex and uncertain future in the US. The legal challenges over his visa, coupled with Trump’s ongoing criticisms, may make Harry’s residency in the US more precarious. As the Heritage Foundation continues its legal efforts, it remains to be seen whether Harry will have to leave the US, or if his status will be determined by the outcome of the case.
