Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has signed a deal with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to transport 35,000 Hajj pilgrims in 2025. Under this agreement, PIA will run special flights from six major cities: Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Multan, and Sukkur. This arrangement aims to ensure smooth travel for pilgrims headed to Saudi Arabia.
The agreement was signed by PIA CEO Air Vice Marshal Aamir Hayat and Additional Secretary Dr. Syed Ata-ur-Rehman. Both officials committed to high-quality service for pilgrims.
Recently, the Federal Cabinet approved the Hajj Policy for 2025. According to this policy, costs will range between Rs10.75 lakh and Rs11.75 lakh per person. An additional Rs55,000 will be required for animal sacrifice. This year, Pakistan’s Hajj quota is 179,210 pilgrims, equally divided between government and private Hajj organizers.
Eligibility and Balloting for Hajj Quota
Children under 12 will not be eligible to travel. The government will use a computerized ballot to allocate seats. Furthermore, 1,000 seats will be reserved for hardship cases, while 300 seats will be set aside for low-income workers registered with the Workers Welfare Fund and the Employees Old Age Benefit Institution.
“Road to Makkah”
In addition, the “Road to Makkah” facility will be available at Islamabad and Karachi airports. This service allows pilgrims to complete Saudi immigration procedures in Pakistan, making their journey easier. Also, Hajj organizers will sign agreements with the Ministry of Religious Affairs to ensure they meet required standards. The ministry will monitor these organizers closely.
The policy offers flexible payment options. Pilgrims will need to make a down payment of Rs200,000 with their application. Then, selected applicants must pay an additional Rs400,000 within 14 days. Finally, they will pay the remaining balance by February 10, 2025.
Women Allowed to Travel Without a Mahram
This year, women may travel without a male guardian (Mahram). They only need a declaration from a male relative, like a father or husband, granting permission.
The government scheme also includes 5,000 slots for the “Dollar Scheme.” This allows overseas Pakistanis to apply and pay in U.S. dollars, specifically accommodating citizens abroad.
