Strict security measures are in effect in Karachi as the city hosts the 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS-24) at the Expo Centre. The event runs from November 19 to 22, 2024.

Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi imposed a seven-day ban on public gatherings, protests, and rallies under Section 144. The restrictions, effective from November 18 to 24, were implemented on the request of Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi Range.

A notification states that gatherings of more than five people are prohibited during this period to maintain order and security. Similar measures have been enforced in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Inaugurates IDEAS-24

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the event today. Organised by the Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) under the Ministry of Defence, IDEAS-24 aims to showcase Pakistan’s defence capabilities and promote its defence industry internationally.

Event Highlights

The exhibition will feature advanced defence technology demonstrations, an international seminar, and the IDEAS Tri-Services Karachi Show. The event will foster networking and business opportunities through B2B (business-to-business) and B2G (business-to-government) engagements.

IDEAS-24 brings together global defence industries to display their latest technological innovations. Pakistan’s defence industry, including public and private sectors, will also exhibit products meeting international standards.

New Startups Pavilion

A key addition to IDEAS-24 is the Startups Pavilion. It is being established under the collaboration of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan Navy Maritime Science and Technology Park (PNMSTP), and the National Aerospace and Technology Park (NASTP).

This platform focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and defence technologies, giving young entrepreneurs a chance to present innovative projects to an international audience.

High-Level Participation

The event will host senior civil and military delegations, along with a large number of trade visitors. In its previous edition, IDEAS attracted 350 delegates from 57 countries, including high-ranking officials such as defence ministers, secretaries, and heads of armed forces.

Boosting Defence Collaboration

IDEAS-24 aims to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global defence market while fostering international collaborations. The exhibition showcases Pakistan’s technological advancements and provides a platform for meaningful dialogue among global defence stakeholders.
