The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated a rigorous campaign against public littering. Violators now face fines of up to 50,000 rupees or imprisonment of up to three years.
This crackdown aims to tackle the growing problem of waste disposal on streets and footpaths.
Businesses and Restaurants Issued Notices
The KMC has started issuing notices to restaurants and businesses across Karachi. These notices highlight the illegal disposal of waste in public spaces.
The action is based on the Sindh Local Government Act, which prohibits littering and dumping garbage in unauthorized areas.
Strict Enforcement Underway
A KMC spokesperson stated that strict measures are being enforced to uphold cleanliness laws. Individuals and businesses found guilty of littering will face fines, jail time, or both.
“The municipal body is determined to maintain Karachi’s environmental standards,” the spokesperson said.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab Vows Firm Action
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized the importance of the campaign. He confirmed that municipal inspectors would ensure the law is followed.
“We are committed to maintaining cleanliness in the city and will not hesitate to take necessary actions against offenders,” he said.
Public Urged to Cooperate
The KMC has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities. They have appealed to residents and business owners to use designated garbage disposal points to avoid penalties.
This initiative is expected to improve Karachi’s environment. It aims to reduce pollution, enhance hygiene, and promote civic responsibility among residents.
