A fire erupted in Rimpa Plaza, a multi-storey building on Karachi’s MA Jinnah Road, on Tuesday. Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Humayun Khan confirmed that the blaze was extinguished after hours-long efforts. No casualties were reported.

Eleven fire tenders and two snorkels were deployed to fight the flames. Rescue teams from the Pakistan Navy and Rescue 1122 also assisted. Residents stated the fire started in a flat on the first floor before spreading to the upper floors.

Delayed Response and Evacuations

Local residents claimed rescue teams arrived late. They evacuated the building and attempted to control the fire themselves. Officials later confirmed that all residents were safely evacuated.

The fire brigade called for additional fire tenders to contain the blaze. Foam and water tankers were used extensively. Glass panels were broken to improve access for firefighters. The NIPA hydrant declared an emergency to ensure a steady water supply.

Authorities Take Notice

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed immediate action. He ordered a detailed report from the Karachi Commissioner. Shah instructed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to inspect high-rise buildings for fire safety compliance.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjhar called for additional police reinforcements. He demanded a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. Lanjhar stressed the findings should be made public.

Previous Incidents Raise Concerns

This is not the first fire incident at Rimpa Plaza. In May last year, a fire broke out on the seventh floor in a spare parts warehouse. That blaze was controlled without casualties but raised questions about fire safety measures.

CFO Khan confirmed that MA Jinnah Road is now open for traffic. Authorities emphasized measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
