Karachiites are finally experiencing a long-awaited cold wave. Temperatures in the city have dropped to 11°C, bringing a taste of winter.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city’s temperature is expected to remain between 10-12°C. Northeasterly winds blowing at 8 kilometers per hour, coupled with 36% humidity, are contributing to the cold spell.

PMD’s Cold Wave Warning

The PMD had earlier issued a warning about a “mild cold wave” across Sindh. Night-time temperatures were predicted to range between 7-9°C. This drop aligns with the forecast, marking a shift in weather patterns.

Balochistan Shivers in Subzero Temperatures

While Karachi enjoys relatively mild weather, Balochistan is facing a harsher cold wave. Quetta recorded a chilling -4°C, while Kalat experienced an even colder -6°C.

Other cities in Balochistan are also bracing for the cold. Nokkundi recorded 0°C, while Gwadar and Sibi reported minimum temperatures of 7°C and 9°C, respectively.

Ziarat Residents Face Severe Challenges

In Ziarat, the cold wave is disrupting daily life. Residents are battling icy winds and frozen water pipes. Gas outages are compounding their difficulties, leaving many struggling to stay warm.

“Cold winds have made life unbearable,” a local resident stated. With no heating options, residents are resorting to alternative measures to cope with freezing temperatures.

Impact on Daily Life in Karachi

The cold spell in Karachi is also affecting daily routines. Early mornings and late evenings are significantly colder, prompting residents to bring out warm clothes. Many are limiting outdoor activities to avoid the chill.

Street vendors selling winter accessories like jackets, sweaters, and blankets are seeing a surge in sales. Tea and coffee stalls are drawing large crowds as people seek ways to stay warm.

Weather Outlook for Coming Days

Meteorologists predict colder days ahead. Karachi is expected to maintain temperatures between 10-12°C during the ongoing cold wave. Night-time temperatures in Sindh’s rural areas may dip further.

In Balochistan, temperatures are likely to remain below freezing in cities like Quetta and Kalat. Residents across the province are bracing for tougher conditions.

Precautions Advised

The PMD has urged residents to take necessary precautions during the cold wave. People are advised to stay indoors, use heating appliances carefully, and dress warmly.

Health experts recommend staying hydrated and consuming warm fluids to maintain body temperature. Parents are encouraged to ensure children are well-covered, especially during school hours.
