Huawei, in partnership with UNESCO IITE, MCIT, KSU, and TVTC, launched the 2024-2025 Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA) ICT Competition Regional Finals in Riyadh. The event, hosted at King Saud University (KSU), celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Huawei ME&CA ICT Academy. Over 300 participants from 19 countries are attending the three-day event.

The Huawei ME&CA ICT Academy has achieved a significant milestone this year, marking 10 years of fostering digital talent in the region. Since its inception, the academy has trained more than 300,000 students, certified over 35,000 individuals, and developed 2,000+ instructors. The academy has partnered with 106 ICT institutions through six Huawei ICT Academy Support Centers (IASCs).

Unprecedented Participation in 2024-2025 Competition

This year’s Huawei ICT Competition saw record-breaking participation. Over 31,000 students from 640 universities and colleges registered to compete. Among them, 290 students participated in the Innovation Track, while 30,900 joined Practice Competitions across Cloud, Network, Computing, and AI Innovation.

Opening Day Highlights

The event kicked off with the Huawei ICT Instructor Contest. Educators demonstrated innovative teaching methods and ICT expertise through presentations and practical sessions. Simultaneously, the Innovation Competition featured student teams showcasing projects in AI, Cloud, Network, and Computing technologies.

Huawei’s Commitment to Bridging the Digital Talent Gap

Wang Shunli, Vice President of ME&CA at Huawei, emphasized the company’s dedication to closing the digital talent gap. He highlighted that the Huawei ICT Competition has been pivotal in nurturing ICT talent and driving regional digital transformation. “This competition reflects our ongoing commitment to creating future leaders who align with national visions,” he said.

TVTC Praises Partnership with Huawei

Dr. Ibrahim Alwatban, Dean of the College of Telecom & Information (CTI) at TVTC, lauded Huawei’s contributions. He stated, “Our partnership with Huawei, especially through the ICT Academy, ensures that our graduates are prepared for evolving market demands. Their innovative AI solutions strengthen our ability to provide cutting-edge education.”

Second-Day Activities: Huawei Innovation Tour

On the second day, finalists and instructors will participate in a Huawei Innovation and Technology Tour. The tour includes visits to Huawei’s facilities, the Future Space, and its flagship store in Riyadh. This exclusive experience will give participants insights into Huawei’s technological advancements.

A Program Backed by Global and Regional Support

Since 2017, the Huawei ME&CA ICT Competition has gained recognition as the region’s largest ICT talent initiative. Supported by UNESCO IITE and over 40 regional ministries, operators, and partners, the competition plays a critical role in enhancing national competitiveness and fostering future leaders in ICT.

In the last 10 years, the Huawei ME&CA ICT Academy has established itself as a leader in digital education. It has created opportunities for students and professionals to grow, making significant contributions to the region’s digital ecosystem.
