H.E. Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Türkiye, emphasized the need for strong efforts by both Türkiye and Pakistan’s private sectors to increase bilateral trade and investment. He was speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) at the Turkish Consulate General. Mr. Sangu stressed the importance of taking pragmatic action rather than just discussing ideas.

He praised the innovative Trade Strategy Roadmap prepared by the EFP Economic Council (EFP-EC) to boost trade. The roadmap aims to increase bilateral trade from $1 billion to $5 billion. Maria Shabbir, EFP-EC Strategy and Communications Advisor, presented the roadmap, which was approved by the Consul General. It outlines strategies for fast-tracking trade growth and mobilizing investment.

Strategic Plan and Future Initiatives

Mr. Sangu announced the Strategy Roadmap will be launched in January at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad. A ceremony for the Pakistani and Turkish private sectors will follow in Karachi. He also proposed organizing trade delegations starting in April to enhance bilateral trade.

The Consul General emphasized that the Turkish government is committed to expanding trade with Pakistan. He called on organizations like EFP, MUSIAD, and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce to work together to achieve this goal. Such cooperation will strengthen trade and investment between the two nations.

Collaboration Between Türkiye and Pakistan

Mehmood Arshad, Chairman of the EFP-EC, shared that after an initial meeting, he and EFP Board Member Syed Hasnain Mazhar visited Istanbul. They met with the Istanbul Chamber, MUSIAD, and other entities. An MOU for collaboration was signed between EFP and MUSIAD. Both parties expressed enthusiasm for increasing ties.

Majyd Aziz, Former President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, led the EFP delegation. He thanked the Consul General for his personal efforts to foster stronger ties. He also invited Mr. Sangu to visit the Musaliha International Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, where the Turkish model for resolving business disputes was discussed.

EFP’s Efforts to Strengthen Trade Relations

EFP Board Members Humayun Nazir and Syed Nazar Ali praised the EFP-EC’s work. They acknowledged the Strategy Roadmap as the first of its kind from a Pakistani Chamber or Trade Association. Both sides agreed that Kowsar Ahmed, Economic and Commercial Specialist at the Consulate, and Maria Shabbir would coordinate the roadmap and trade delegations.
