Debutant fast bowler Corbin Bosch stole the spotlight on the second day of the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan, guiding his team to a crucial 90-run first-innings lead at SuperSport Park, Centurion. Bosch’s brilliant knock of 81 not out, paired with his earlier four-wicket haul, has put South Africa in a commanding position in this crucial Test.

Bosch Anchors Lower Order with Aggressive Knock

South Africa was bowled out for 301 in response to Pakistan’s 211. At one point, the hosts were only two runs ahead, with opener Aiden Markram dismissed for 89 as the eighth wicket. However, Bosch, batting at number nine, launched a counter-attack.

Markram’s Resilient Performance

Aiden Markram, under pressure after a string of low scores, delivered a chanceless knock of 89. He resumed at 47 overnight and quickly reached his half-century in the third over of the day. Despite falling short of a century, his innings showcased his ability to anchor the innings and put South Africa ahead.

Markram’s dismissal, combined with the contributions from Bosch, ensured South Africa capitalized on their overnight score of 82-3.

Pakistan’s Morning Fightback

Pakistan remained competitive during the morning session. Captain Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham were dismissed in quick succession, keeping Pakistan in the contest. Bavuma, who added 54 runs with Markram, edged a delivery from Aamer Jamal and was caught behind for 31.

Bedingham played a brisk innings, scoring 30 off 33 balls, before falling to extra bounce from Naseem Shah, edging to Kamran Ghulam in the slips. Pakistan’s efforts kept South Africa from running away with the game early in the day.

High Stakes for South Africa

South Africa needs to win at least one match in this two-Test series to secure a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s next June. The pressure to deliver has added an extra layer of intensity to the contest.

The hosts are in a strong position, having won their last seven home Tests against Pakistan. However, the visitors have shown resilience, leaving the match finely balanced as the third day approaches.

South Africa Eyes Dominance

South Africa’s ability to extend their lead on day two, thanks to Bosch’s heroics and Markram’s steady hand, has given them the upper hand.
