The federal government is expected to announce new petroleum prices on December 31. Diesel and kerosene oil prices may see an increase, while petrol prices are likely to remain unchanged.

Sources from the Petroleum Division suggest a potential increase of more than Rs4 per litre in diesel prices. Diesel is widely used in transportation and agriculture, making this increase significant for consumers.

The price of kerosene oil may rise by Rs1 per litre. Kerosene is a key fuel for rural households, especially in areas without access to natural gas.

Petrol Prices Likely to Remain Steady

Petrol prices are not expected to change in the upcoming review. However, there is speculation that petrol prices could also increase, depending on the final decision.

“There is a possibility that petrol prices will also be increased, but the situation will become clear once the official notification is issued,” a source said.

Announcement to Follow Final Consultation

The Finance Minister is expected to consult with the Prime Minister before finalising the adjustments. The announcement will likely be made on December 31, aligning with the government’s periodic review of fuel prices.

On December 15, the government announced its last fuel price adjustment. Petrol prices remained unchanged, holding steady at Rs252.10 per litre.

The government had reduced the price of high-speed diesel by Rs3.05 per litre in the last review. The new price for diesel was set at Rs255.38 per litre.

Kerosene and Light Diesel Prices Also Cut

Kerosene oil saw a reduction of Rs3.32 per litre on December 15. The new price was set at Rs161.66 per litre. Similarly, light diesel prices were reduced by Rs2.78, bringing the rate to Rs148.95 per litre.

The expected changes reflect the government’s regular review of petroleum prices, influenced by global market trends and domestic economic factors.

Public Braces for Impact

Consumers and industries are bracing for the new prices. Any increase in diesel or kerosene prices will directly affect transportation and household budgets.

The government’s official notification will clarify the exact changes, but the possibility of rising fuel costs has already raised concerns among citizens.
