The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a shift of the upcoming ODI tri-series, featuring South Africa and New Zealand, to Karachi and Lahore. Originally planned for Multan, the relocation aligns with ongoing preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The decision highlights the PCB’s confidence in the readiness of these upgraded venues, set to deliver a top-tier cricketing experience.

Champions Trophy Preparations in Full Swing

The PCB reassured that renovation work at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Bank Stadium in Karachi is progressing according to schedule. These venues, along with the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, will host the Champions Trophy matches. Upgrades at Gaddafi Stadium include an increased seating capacity of 35,000, installation of new chairs, and 480 advanced LED lights to enhance broadcast quality. Similarly, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium has added new hospitality enclosures and installed 350 LED lights to ensure optimal visibility for global audiences.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, another key venue, has also undergone significant improvements.

Tri-Series Venue Relocation

The tri-series, serving as a precursor to the Champions Trophy, will now take place in Karachi and Lahore from February 8 to February 14. This decision reflects the PCB’s commitment to utilizing the revamped venues for upcoming international events. The series will feature four matches, including games involving New Zealand, South Africa, and host Pakistan.

Champions Trophy Group Matches and Hybrid Model

The Champions Trophy will kick off with Pakistan hosting New Zealand in Karachi on February 19. Meanwhile, other group-stage matches will take place across Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.

These venue upgrades underline the PCB’s efforts to elevate cricket infrastructure in Pakistan. Enhanced seating, lighting, and hospitality facilities aim to meet international standards and attract global audiences.
