Police in Karachi have detained two suspects after the body of a missing seven-year-old boy, Sarim, was found in an underground water tank at the Baitul Naeem apartment complex in North Karachi. The discovery, made late last night, followed an extensive search operation by law enforcement and has sent shockwaves through the community.

Discovery of the Body

Sarim had been missing for 11 days before his body was found in the underground tank. Police and family members had been conducting extensive searches in the area since he disappeared on January 7. The water tank, covered with a makeshift cardboard lid, was initially checked twice during the search but showed no signs of the child. Residents now suspect the body may have been submerged and surfaced later.

The operation to locate Sarim involved the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), and other officials. It continued until early morning, resulting in the detention of two suspicious individuals.

Evidence and Investigation

The suspects, who had keys to a locked flat within the apartment complex, are now under police custody for questioning. During the search, authorities discovered a blanket that has been sent for forensic analysis. Samples from the locked flat are also being tested for clues.

Investigators are awaiting the results of Sarim’s post-mortem examination, which is expected to clarify the cause of death. Additionally, DNA samples from the suspects and the child have been sent to the University of Karachi’s forensic lab for further analysis.

The Missing Days

Sarim, a student at Madrasah Al Quran, vanished on January 7 after attending his seminary in the Bilal Colony police jurisdiction. His father, Parvez, had visited the seminary when Sarim failed to return home. The seminary administration informed him that Sarim had left for home at 3:40 p.m. While returning from the seminary, Parvez discovered his son’s gloves on the stairs inside the mosque, adding to his growing concern.

Community Grieves

The tragic discovery of Sarim’s body has devastated his family and the neighborhood. His mother collapsed in grief upon seeing his body, while residents expressed anger and disbelief. Many questioned how the tank had been overlooked during earlier searches and whether foul play might be involved.

Authorities have stated there are no initial signs of assault, but the investigation is ongoing to determine if Sarim’s death was accidental or the result of criminal activity.

A Community in Mourning

Sarim’s death has left a community searching for answers. The police, working alongside forensic experts, aim to uncover the truth behind this heartbreaking incident. Residents, meanwhile, have called for greater vigilance to ensure such tragedies do not occur in the future.
