The Thrilling Final Chapter of Squid Game
Squid Game, the globally acclaimed South Korean thriller, will drop its third and final season on Netflix on June 27. The announcement was made during Netflix’s Next on Netflix event on Thursday. The survival drama, which gripped audiences worldwide in 2021, is expected to build on its legacy of jaw-dropping moments and high-stakes tension. A brief clip of the upcoming season released during the event hinted at more heart-pounding scenes from within the deadly competition.
A Cultural Phenomenon
Squid Game quickly became a cultural sensation after its debut, solidifying Netflix’s position as the go-to streaming platform. Within just one month, the series reached 142 million households, breaking records as the most-watched original series at the time. The show’s gripping premise, centered on individuals competing in a deadly game to erase their financial debts, resonated with millions.
The show’s success also helped boost Netflix’s subscription numbers. With high-profile live events, such as the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match and Christmas Day NFL games, Netflix added a record 19 million subscribers in its fourth quarter, bringing its global total to nearly 302 million.
Squid Game’s Final Act
As the third and final season begins, fans can expect more of the same high-stakes drama. Lee Jung-jae returns as Seong Gi-hun, the protagonist determined to stop the brutal games.
